  About This Workshop

You will be introduced to linocut printing, and you will learn briefly about the history of printmaking. You will get to know all the materials you will need for the linocut printing technique and you will learn the basic information. You will prepare the image according to its applicability to the linocut printing technique (this can be a reference photo or an image you have drawn yourself) and transfer it to the lino block surface. In the preparation phase of the lino block for printing, we will help you to determine the layers and create the basic plan of light/dark, light/shadow, texture and depth. You will learn to cut the lino block effectively and safely with different cutting tips. You will learn to obtain straight lines, crosshatch and use the dot technique in harmony with your design.

Once you've finished cutting the lino block, you'll be ready to print. You will learn to ink wood block surface correctly with rollers using water-based or oil-based inks, depending on your preference. You will make your prints on quality papers by hand (a spoon or a glass bottle will be used here), or with a press. In this way, you will have experienced and learned both the traditional technique and the modern technique.

Within the day we should have drawn out, carved and inked up your linoleum which will be transferred to paper. All the materials you need for your linocut printmaking work will be provided by the atelier. At the end of the day, three to five prints without cutting your fingers is the goal.

Our guests will be able to take the carved block home with them so they can print as many times as they want using very few tools.

Printmaking is a fun way to create images that can be used as poster art, t-shirt & fabric designs, or limited edition fine art prints. It's great for handmade gifts. We will guide you through all the steps to make some rather impressive prints.
