About This Workshop
In this workshop, you will experience the entire process of drypoint technique with plexiglass plate in practice. You will meet intaglio and learn briefly about the history of printmaking. You will get to know all the materials you will need for drypoint technique and learn the basic information.
You will prepare the image according to its applicability to drypoint (this can be a reference photo or a visual you have drawn yourself), and you will learn to apply this image to the plexiglass plate surface with various engraving tools and techniques. In order to create a strong effect as a result of the print, we will help you to create the basic plan of texture and depth by emphasising the balance of light/dark, light/shadow. And then you will learn to print the plexiglass plate with a press on a quality printing paper by inking it.
Conclusion
In this course, you will develop your printmaking skills in a workshop environment with the guidance of Atelier Güve instructors and have a pleasant experience. At the end of the course, you will be able to take your own works and artworks with you.
What the Atelier Will Provide to Participants
We will provide all the materials you need for your drypoint work.
These are;
- Drawing tools to prepare the image according to the drypoint technique,
- Hand tools and spare tips and needles to apply the image on the plexiglass surface,
- A5 size and 4mm thick plexiglass blocks,
- High quality oil-based inks and solvents,
- Quality papers suitable for plexiglass printing.
What We Recommend You Bring
We recommend that you bring your design sketches or the image you want to work with this technique. However, if you have trouble finding inspiration, do not worry because there will be plenty of suitable images and ideas in our atelier for you to reference.
You can also bring a notebook to take notes during the workshop.
Safety
We will provide participants with aprons to prevent paint, ink, etc. from getting on their clothes, otherwise the oil-based inks we will use may remain on your clothes permanently.
Also we will provide the gloves you will need.
**In drypoint technique, we use sharp and cutting scrapers to scrape the surface where the image will be transferred. We will give you instructions on how to hold and use these hand tools, you are expected to follow these instructions and be careful when using all atelier tools and equipment.
